Confession 1
I then went on to do a sponsored swim. Now, I'm not a sporty person as anyone that knows me will understand but it was something different and a good way of raising money for a charity that I had set up myself.
This got the attention of the local newspaper who were interested in what I was doing and thought it was great I was doing it at such a young age.
Most recently I've done a charity ball which although took longer to organise than previous events, was the best and most successful one that I've done. Over 100 people bought a ticket, there was an excellent band who offered to play at the ball free of charge and a photographer who had travelled a long way as a member of his family suffered the same condition as me so he wanted to help. He came and took amazing photos free of charge. I also did a raffle and auction and had an auctioneer who volunteered to donate his services for free. There was a lot of generous companies that donated to the raffle and auction and we raised around £2000 from that night which was an amazing success.
It was just after the sponsored swim that someone said to me "you'll be an event planner one day" and until then I'd never even realised that this could be a possible career for me. The more I researched the industry the more I knew I wanted to do this. I was passionate about events and was willing to do everything I could to make this dream possible.
I want to share with you my journey through this and hopefully help all budding event planners get into what is a hard industry to set foot in.
